Add ALA to your daily supplements!
Dr. Berkson has put his research and findings into terms that all can
understand. I had hepititis and recovered, but suffered from minor
liver malfunctions which triggered constipation and poor digestion of
fats. Merely the addition of Alpha Lipoic Acid has helped restore my
liver function and aleviated my problems. I've gained much usable
information from his book about preventing heart disease, a family
problem....I am thankful that I have finally found a supplement that
has helped me with those continuing liver related problems.

Very informative and helpful and true, written by himself.
In the introductory of The Alpha Lipoic Acid book, written by Dr. Burt Berkson, my husband John and I, Eunice Goostree, are the people that Dr. Burt were refering to. We ate the Amanita Verna Mushroom and John nearly died. Thioctic Acid, liquid form of Alpha Lipoic Acid is all that saved us. When the chief of staff at the hospital gave up on us, Dr. Berkson KNEW that he could save us and to the amazement of all others, we are alive and well.I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Berkson, his books, his ethics, his compassion and his determination to save his patients even when all of the odds were against him. We love you Dr. Berkson.

The best book out there on the subject!
It seems that after twenty years, this integral story vital to our understanding and improving of modern medicine is being told. Everyone interested in health and healing must read this book. In it, Dr. Berkson recounts his tales from his own personal experiences from treating patients dealing with a wide array of health problems with this amazing antioxidant. The author explains the mechanisms of alpha lipoic acid and the significance it can play in the treatment of cancer, diabetes, and numerous other diseases. Dr. Berkson also diagnoses an easy to follow and effective protocol to healthy living. The author is obviously the premier authority in this field and spins his tale with remarkably clear and engaging prose. The message of this book is simple: alpha lipoic acid has saved lives before and, as more people are educated on it's uses, there are many more lives that will be saved and improved. A must read for anyone remotely interested in the exciting field of modern integrative medicine.

'A MUST HAVE'!
This is definitely a 'must have' book for all X-Files fans! Every person, place, company name, historical reference or 'you name it' ever mentioned in seasons 1-4 is covered here! Also serves as an episode guide! Mine stays right next to me whenever I am watching the reruns! Get it...now!

The Best X-Files Book Out There!
This is so packed with details that I am always searching for. It's awesome, it's so cool. It has everything that you need to know about the X-files, I have nothing but praise for the author. I love the fact that it told so much about all of the characters and stuff, and it's just so great that I recommend if you're as obsessed as I am about the show, to go and buy it. It's definitely worth the price. Again, really great book!!!

The book gives all the info you need up to season 4
I thought that the book had alot to give and I realy liked it. If any one has a good X-files book tell me what it is called

So worth the money
My brother got me this book for my birthday two years ago. It is my bible and my life (kind of sad, actually!) Anyways, it's really good and like that other guy said, if you take a few months to memorize it, you'll the X-Files Genius and you can impress your friends with little tidbits of knowledge. For example, what's Scully's home phone number? I'm not telling.. get it and look it up yourself! Note: good book for diehard fans!

Fun trivia for true fans
If you think you know EVERYTHING about the best show on television, you're wrong. These guys pull up obscure info and quiz you on it, drawing not only from the episodes but from interviews, books, and magazines. This is a great book and a must for an X-Phile's library! My only complaint: after reading Phil Farrand's lighthearted Nitpicker's Guide, the authors of this book seem really critical. I mean, what's up with their review of "War of the Coprophages"? Lighten up! Other than that, of course, diehard fans will cherish this book.

Stumps the Best
I've always considered myself an X-pert. None of my online friends (or real life for that matter) has ever been able to stump me on X-Files trivia. I'm completely addicted to the show and have 15 books.

This one is definately one of the best, pointing out many of the nitpicks and netpicks we've philes have already discovered in addition to new ones that sent me back to look for them. The trivia is extremely difficult and interesting.

I recommend this book to all philes who think they know it all. Take a few months to memorize this book and then you will know it all.

Hitler Stopped By Franco
Published in Paperback by Marbella House (17 July, 2001)
Authors: Burt Boyar and Jane Boyar
Average review score:

Franciso Franco: Protector of Sephardic Jews
Many have the true notion that Spanish Dictator Francisco Franco craftily prevented his Civil War ally Adolf Hitler from marching 20 divisions through Spain in World War II and occupying British controlled Gibraltar. This prevented the Axis from sealing off the western end of the Mediterranean and made a major contribution to ultimate Allied victory.

What many may, however, learn for the first time in the Jane and Bert Boyars' 2001 documentary novel HITLER STOPPED BY FRANCO is that Franco also got away with provoking Hitler by his bold assistance to Jews.

An introductory quote (p. 104): "The Sephardim, Jews of Spain and Portugal, had not seen Spain since Ferdinand and Isabella had expelled them in 1492 after giving them the opportunity to remain by becoming true Catholics."

Franco's positive attitude towards Jews is at least six years older than Hitler's 1933 rise to power in Germany. As early as 1927 as a fighting Colonel commanding thousands of men in Spanish Morocco, Francisco Franco received permission from Madrid to use his troops to protect from Muslims the local Sephardic Jews. The Sephardic community was grateful and in 1936 supported Franco with money at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

In 1927 Spanish dictator Primo de Rivera had also told Franco that Sephardic Jews might return to Spain, become citizens and worship as they pleased. This invitation was deep in Franco's memory when, in 1940, French Jews began beseeching Spanish authorities in Vichy France for asylum on the basis of Spanish citizenship. (p. 104)

As told by Franco's wife to the authors, Franco then briefly but decisively mulled over what to do. "...I have sworn to give my life protecting Spaniards." (p. 105)

After prayer, Franco authorized issuing Spanish passports to Sephardim as their right under Spanish law. Asked by consular officials how to tell Sephardim from non-Sephardim, Franco ruled, "They are all Sephardim."

By September 1940 Hitler was pressuring Franco to cede to Germany one of the Canary Islands and to allow the Wehrmacht to march on Gibraltar through Spain. (p.106)

By November 1940 Hitler told Serrano Suner, Franco's brother-in-law, that he had at the moment 186 inactive German divisions and he intended to use some of them to take Gibraltar. Nor had he failed to notice Franco's Jewish policy. "Spanish passports are being issued to Jews who have never seen Spain, nor have their ancestors in precisely 448 years. ... Suddenly French are Spanish. And from Poland suddenly Poles are Spaniards. And in Denmark and the Netherlands ... overnight my enemies have Spanish passports and are able to leave my jurisdiction." (p. 159)

And leave they did. Nor did Jews ever forget that Franco was their benefactor. For the rest of this little known story -- and for much more-- read HITLER STOPPED BY FRANCO.

-OOO-

Very revealing! Amazing historical information !
This book is certainly a most amazing and remarkable feat.It reveals quite a number of historical events and facts that demolish many myths and prejudices regarding Francisco Franco.Especially interesting is his protection of the many hundreds, perhaps thousands,of persecuted Jews in the face of Hitler's monstrous nazi death onslaught.Franco's handling of the WWII "Axis of Evil",his retaining Spain out of the war in spite of ominous and overwhelming pressures, his almost unique humanitarian and compassionate assistance to the to- be- murdered Jewish people, his patriotism and devotion to Spain and rock solid serenity in the face of great dangers is well documented and source supported in this book. What a pity that these achievements have received such little attention!Could it have been that Communism enormous propaganda resources did'nt take kindly to Franco's defeat of its attempt to take over Spain?.....Bravo for the Boyars!!!!

Wonderful read. Incredible accuracy. Franco saved Humankind!
This book has so many great moments that I cannot list them all here without getting close to rewrite the full book again! FIRST GREAT MOMENT: The authors fictional depiction of how the world could be now. Just imagine this: A svastika flag over the White House! And, you know? If Franco hasn't stopped Hitler we could probably living that nightmare nowadays! SECOND GREAT MOMENT: The very beginning of the book, when you grasp a taste of the narrative style. Just begining to read it you KNOW you are going to enjoy it. THIRD GREAT MOMENT: Of course, the historical meeting at Hitler's train in the Spain's border at Irun-Hendaye. The fact that the authors could interview and tape record directly the only survivor from that reunion (Serrano Suñer) gives this chapter an incredible significance! FOURTH GREAT MOMENT: When you discover that the misterious man helping Franco with information on Germany's most secret moves was, actually, German admiral Canaris. Great scene! FIFTH GREAT MOMENT (AMONG DOZENS OF OTHERS): When the Allies and the Germans seem to be ready to invade Spain, and Franco is, in the middle of all that tension JUST OIL PAINTING!

Another important thing is to read and confirm that PRESS manipulation has always existed. It's incredible how that time media were totally biased and misinforming about the realities of Spain, and about the real character of Franco. This book is not only about a circumstance that did change History. This book could and SHOULD change the perception people have of Franco himself. But go ask the jews: they just call him the GREATEST benefactor of the jews amidst the WWII havoc.

Go read it. At the appendix's part after the end of the book, you can confirm that it is totally and painfully documented. But, besides its factual ground, it is a wonderful novel to read. Oh! And prepare to enjoy the tension, like in any good thriller, even when you know the final outcome of events. Five stars, for this book, absolutely!...

Sight & Insight: The Art of Burton Silverman

The work of a true Maestro
Sight and Insight! As a painter this book is invaluable to me, as an appreciator of art and a viewer it is an opportunity to view some of the most magnificent and masterfully executed paintings all bound together in a spectacular reproduction of artwork in itself. The execution in his draftsmanship, the use of form and the genius of the use of color by Mr. Silverman is incredible to behold. The narrative is clear and thoughfully written. I have purchased not just one book but two, one for use in my studio as a reference book. The other is a special edition signed by the Master. All who pick up the book have a delightful treat in store for them, for each time one gazes at his art, there are new discoveries to be made. As an artist I am in awe and hold a great deal of admiration and respect for his art, to have this treasure to enjoy and learn from in the form of a book is indeed a feast.

Excellent discussion of the creative process in art.
"I purchased Sight & Insight ;the art of Burton Silverman several months ago, but just came across his listing with Amazon. I think it's a beautiful book with some of the best paintings I've seen that uses representational realism. The people depicted are both very real and very arresting in a thoughtful, reflective way. It's like reading a good book and looking up to conjure the image of the character in ones mind only this artist does that for you. He doesn't exclude the viewer though, because there's a lot of ambiguity in his characters that leaves room for ones own speculations as to the meanings of the paintings. The writing, by both Prof. McGrath and Philip Saietta are excellent if sometimes difficult sledding, particularly with the Professor. But it's really a very readable and informative collection of essays. Silverman also writes about his career with compelling honesty. It's a real treat to go through this book and well worth the price, many times over."

Why Insight?
As the art director of the Merrill-Johnson Gallery, we are privileged to exhibit Mr. Silverman's work including several of the paintings in the book, "Sight and Insight". The paintings depicted in the book are fine example of the work that has made Mr. Silverman one of America's most respected realist painters. There are many books that are "how-to" paint (in fact Silverman has written two wonderful ones himself), but there are few "why-tos." "Sight and Insight" provides the reader an insight into the interpretive and artistic motivations behind his paintings. The book deserves to be in every serious art book collection for both the artist and the art appreciator.

The King of the Trees
If you like Lord of the Rings thwn you will enjoy this book as well as the others written by William Burt. he is also a friend of mine. These books will keep you reading, full of adventure at each turn of the page!

The King of the Trees
As a three time teacher of the year I can fully recommend The King of the Trees for fun, adventure reading. The old theme of good vs evil is replayed in a refreshing setting. The plot and characters are believable and enjoyable. While the end is predictable to older readers, children will love this story. Parallels can be drawn between other good vs evil plots including: Lord of the Rings, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, and many Bible stories.

A Imagination Inspirer all will Love
This is wonderful book that you and your children will absolutely love. We read this every night together before going to bed and every night I was begged if we could read just one more chapter. This imaginative book will draw you and your children in and you will love the characters you come to know and the places you will go. I highly recommend this book and we are anxiously awaiting another to follow.

The Last Open Road (The Last Open Road)
Published in Hardcover by Think Fast Ink (December, 1998)
Authors: Bert Levy and Burt S. Levy
Average review score:

A must read for any sports car or auto racing enthusiast.
I loved this book for several reasons. It really captures the essance of being an auto enthusiast. It paints a great picture of the early days of sports car racing in this country. The book is honest - there are no added surprises, unexpected murders, unneccessary suspense, etc. It's just a good story. Any sports car enthusiast or racer should read it.

Levy Hits The Mark on Life in the Fifties
Levy's strong treatise on the adventures of Buddy Polumbo and Company speaks volumes on life in the blue collar, Italian-American world of early 1950's North Jersey and its class struggle with the upper crust, and resonates with the efforts on an ambitious young man to break out and better himself. His mechanical talents and work ethic are merely the vehicles through which he strives to improve his lot and that of his loved ones. The central plot need not have been about sports car racing to be effective, but could have applied equally to athletics or any industrial enterprise. Notwithstanding the above, those who love racing and wish to understand its roots in America will find new inpiration for their passion in B.S. Levy's excellent book.

One wonders what an effective screen treatment this would make with Paul Newman in the role of an older Buddy Polumbo, reviewing the growth of Sports Car racing in America through flashback. You can almost hear the clanking of tools and cursing of Old Man Finzio in an open work bay of the Sinclair on a hot July afternoon as we fade to the first scene. A must read!

Pure Joy
This book is a pure joy for anyone who loves automobiles, racing, and nostalgia. I literally found myself laughing out loud and felt I had known some of the characters personally. Mr. Levy spins a delightful yarn with colorful backgrounds, characters, and situations we can all recognize. This one is a real keeper to read over and over again. If you read this one, you must follow up with "Montezuma's Ferrari" Mr. Levy's next installment in the life of Buddy Palumbo.

WHERE THEY AIN'T : THE FABLED LIFE AND UNTIMELY DEATH OF THE ORIGINAL BALTIMORE ORIOLES, THE TEAM THAT GAVE BIRTH TO MODERN BASEBALL
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (April, 1999)
Author: Burt Solomon
Average review score:

Fun Even for Those With Little Interest in Baseball
Burt Solomon's Where They Ain't is the history of the original Baltimore Orioles, a pivotal team in the history of baseball that moved the sport from the nineteenth and into the twentienth century. Although, however, baseball may have changed during this period, one thing never changed and that is the importance of money and business in the sport. This was one of the most fascinating aspects of the sports history. In addition, the book gives marvelous personal sketches of many of the players, a social history of Balitmore and New York at the turn of the century, and, along the way, I even managed to pick up a bit knowledge of baseball. More interesting than I expected and highly recommended for the sports fan.

The Fascinating World of Baseball--1890's Style
Although I have always enjoyed baseball history, I have never had much interest in baseball before the first World Series in 1903. I thought that since early baseball was so unlike the "modern" game it was as dry as dust. This book has corrected that erroneous opinion. Mr. Solomon shows the continuity of the game since the early days, yet refers to significant changes in the rules that led to the way the game has, essentially, been played over the past 100 years. The author also does an excellent job of placing the events of his story within the context of the social and economic conditions of the day. However, the most obvious parallel is that the business aspects of major league baseball have changed very little over the years. The more things change, the more they remain the same! This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it.

A fascinating look at the ur-history of baseball
Many will know that Dimaggio broke Wee Willie Keeler's hitting streak of 44 consecutive games, or will know the name of Ty Cobb's manager Hughie Jennings, or the name of the much-feared Giants manager John McGraw (who turns out to be the combined Ty Cobb and Tony Gwynn of his day), but this book brings these legendaries to life in the days when they themselves were playing, all on the same team as it turns out! Also included is Ned Hanlon, a little known manager who seems to have practically invented modern baseball training and tactics, "Iron Man" Joe McGinnity, Cy Young (he of the famous award), Kid Nichols, Charles Ebbets and other distant whispers. There is even the occasional mention of Babe Ruth. The book does everything right, knowing when to slow down and just enjoy the subject and when to fast forward to the next salient points. There is a nice collection of photos, thorough appendices and wondeful footnotes that are a pleasure to read in themselves. Overall, Solomon and his editorial team have created a fascinating immersion in the time when fans were "cranks" and hurlers were "twirlers".

Your Owner's Manual
Published in Paperback by Fernwood Management Co (September, 1992)
Author: Burt Hotchkiss
Average review score:

YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL NEEDS TO BE ON OPRAH'S BOOK LIST.
When the book first came out my 20 year old granddaughter let me read hers. I was so impressed that I bought 10 books and gave them to my friends...they like the book so much that each of them bought 10 and gave them to their friends...and the sharing goes on. Now my friends want to read the book together and have a study on it, as these are thoughts to live by...so Burt said that he would come to Nebraska to help us get started....What a Book! Thanks Burt.

And you thought life came with NO instructions <grin>
I once heard a speaker comment that we came to the planet with NO "owners manual". I got great pleasure in correcting her following her speech by presenting her a copy of "Your Owner's Manual", a creative, down-to-earth practical guide to life. Burt Hotchkiss has managed to condense a variety of life's challenges, and suggest a direction to resolve or embrace them.

His easy, comfortable manner of addressing life's questions, makes every page an easy read. This is a great book to hold and simply ask "what do I want to know today?", and then open to wherever Spirit moves you.

If you're looking for a complicated "self help" compendium of lofty ideas.........this ain't it !!.

IF you are looking for simple applicable solutions or discussions........you've come to the right place.

Burt is so committed to sharing his philosophies, that the book is easily affordable to anyone. Familiar new thought messages string through his book and gently take form in the heart of the reader. Creatively packaged to look like the operations manual for any lawnmower or similar piece of utilitarian equipment, it is an excellent guide to how to operate life.

In other words.........I LIKE this book !! Think you will too.

Your Owner's Manual is what you've been missing
'Your Owner's Manual' by Burt Hotchkiss is designed to fill a void in your life. Every vehicle, every appliance, every important item in your life likely came with an owner's manual - except YOU. This void is admirably filled by this great little book by Burt Hotchkiss.

I confess I have not only bought and read this book, but I have bought several copies to give away, and each has created delight when the recipient 'got' the concept.

The 'Manual' is patterned closely after a standard car owners manual - the kind you find in the glove compartment. It contains good, practical philosophy of how to guide your life into paths of happiness, prosperity, and meaningful existence. The gems of wisdom you will find are designed to really make you think - and if you do, there will be a sort of "Aha" moment when you really receive each 'gift' this book contains.

It was my privilege to meet Burt on one of his many workshop 'tours' which happened to hit my Canadian home town. Talking with him, I came to understand that his wisdom comes from a life that is fully lived with joy, kindness, and generosity. The 'Owners Manual' is his offering to the world, from the heart. This small review is just my very tiny contribution - because the world would be a better, happier place if everyone read their "Owners' Manual".

A Christmas Dozen From the Christmas Story Pastor
Published in Audio Cassette by Steven E. Burt (19 April, 2001)
Authors: Steve Burt and Steven Burt
Average review score:

Christmas Soup for the Soul
Warm and wonderful stories that require readers or listeners to carry tissues or a hanky. It's not surprising that the author who contributed the moving story "Unk's Fiddle" in Chicken Soup for the Single's Soul also penned these twelve lovely Christmas gifts. They are lovely when heard aloud at the author's numerous public readings around Connecticut, and they're great when read aloud by the pastor of any church wise enough to use this book as a resource for the Christmas candlelight service. Truly Christmas Soup for the Soul.

The perfect gift for the holidays
Perhaps the best collection of Christmas stories ever published in one book! Burt's easy-to-read (larger print), heart-warming stories are appealing to adults and children alike, capturing the essence of the season in twelve entirely different ways. Perfect for cuddling up with family near the fireplace, reading aloud in church services, or sharing to a group of senior listeners or children. You'll never run out of people to give this book to! If you're looking for the next "classic," this is it!

The Magic of Christmas is Brought to Life for Our World
Steve Burt enchanted our congregation last Advent by delightfully reading short stories from his book "A Christmas Dozen." In his writing, the adventures of oh so truthfully quirky and vivid New England characters come to life. It's as though today's secular modern world and the sacred are combined in these little realistic and contemporary mysteries of hope. The stories have broad appeal. We had a Christmas reception following his hour of reading, and of course he gleefully autographed books to people - not to mention to their friends and family. He brought boxes of books with him, and HE LEFT WITH NONE! "A Christmas Dozen" is sheer joy. The journeys of his characters have added deep meaning to my Christmas celebration. I was so moved by them, that my wife and I gave a dozen books for Christmas last year, and we will do so again! I can't help wanting to share these stories. I tell them in worship and even read them at Christmas parties. So many things distract us in December from the real meaning of the season. I encourage you to invite the stories of "A Christmas Dozen" into your life. Read them again and again and again. Steve Burt also travels from his home in Connecticut to congreagations and various secular and sacred organizations around the country. His words contain the delightful mystery of Emmanel, the gift of God With Us.

Congratulations, Steve, on an extraordinarily magical book!
